ALPHATEK Spring Assisted Knife APEX440C
There are hundreds of knives to choose from if you are looking for a good EDC Knife or one to carry for self-defense purposes. There is a big deviation in price range as well from knives at sub ten dollars to ones priced in their hundreds.
Here’s a good one I recommend: the ALPHATEK APEX440C based on other customers reviews and also on some cool videos I saw of the product. The bottle opener function is a nice extra feature as well and works well! In fact you may find you use the bottle opener the most. It’s nice that you have the option of not opening up the blade to use the bottle opener feature.
The knife will arrive sharp but not razor sharp, this might be a deal breaker for some but for me it is sharp enough for everyday use. It also comes with a serrated saw that had mixed reviews I’m not planning on using the saw feature so again no real issue for me but reviewers have mentioned that it cuts through rope OK. The handle can be used as a glass breaker which in an emergency situation could come in useful.
The black weathered look finish of the knife makes it fairly unobtrusive and gives it a tactical look that will fit in with my EDC kit and other tactical gear I own. Aesthetically it is very pleasing on the eye.
In the hand the Knife feels solid and durable enough but is fairly light, it balances nicely though. The grip is textured and feels nice in the hand; it is not likely to slip.
It also comes nicely packaged so if you have someone in your life who would like this type of product it would make a nice gift.
As I mentioned before, this knife would be great in my EDC kit and for self-defense. So taking that into account I love the spring assisted blade and just as described it opens lightning fast. You can also open and close it with one hand. It does take a little pressure to open but once you use it a few times you will get attuned to how much pressure to use.
One thing I notice reading the reviews on Amazon was that customers who had received faulty knives received great customer service and had their knives replaced straight away.
Some of the reviews on Amazon are from users who were given the ALPHATEK Spring Assisted Knife free to review so I’m not sure if these reviews were biased or not. A couple of the guys compared the knife with more expensive brands like Benchmade and said there wasn’t much difference between the two brands apart from price. I can’t really give further input on this as I have never owned a Benchmade knife.
My Final Thoughts
For a $30 knife this met all my expectations and more, I love the look of it, the lightning fast opening and the nice extra feature of the bottle opener. It should be a great addition to my tactical kit and should come in handy in an emergency.
