What to Do After a Flood
Once the flood waters have receded and the area is declared safe by the authorities, you’ll want to get back to your home.
Be careful when re-entering a building that has been flooded, as the flood may have damaged the foundation.
Avoid contact with floodwater, as it may contain toxic chemicals, bacteria, sewage, or gasoline, or may be electrically charged.
Clean and disinfect everything touched by floodwater.
Report any downed power lines in your area and stay away from them.
Drink only bottled water until the water supply is declared safe to drink.
